An early Christmas present? Or is someone just napping over at China internet police headquarters? Regardless, the photos over at Flickr, our photo sharing website of choice, appear to be accessible at 7 pm on Saturday night. Yay? We'll see. Working for you? The above screen shot of our Contribute Page, which shows a live stream of Flickr photos tagged "shanghaiist," was taken while using Safari with no kind of proxy or VPN or Flickr-unblocker...
An informal survey among Shanghaiist contributors yesterday afternoon found that some can actually now access Flickr (without the use of a Firefox add-on) — and they seem to be concentrated around the same office complex in Jing'an district and pockets of Pudong. The majority of us, though, continue to remain in the dark. There are any number of possibilities to explain for this strange situation:
It doesn't just end there. Yahoo is also inaccessible now it seems, although both Yahoo.com.cn and Yahoo.cn are still working as usual. Has it been GFW-ed? Is the inaccessibility of the two websites related?
