Get your eyeballs ready! IMAX will be installing another 15 of their highfalutin' theaters throughout China, in a new joint-venture with South Korea's CJ GGV Holdings Ltd. No doubt eager to cater to the country's growing numbers of cinema-goers that every silver-haired media bigwig worth their salt wants a piece of, IMAX will be installing the first of its theaters this year, with the rest to be rolled out between 2013 to 2017.
IMAX to add 15 new theaters in China!
No monkeying around for 400 million RMB epic
It seems that if a retelling of Pocahontas with a hoard of 10-foot tall blue extraterrestrial beings is enough to spawn masses of people trying to “avatar-me” (not to mention nine Oscar nominations), then surely a 3D Monkey King epic is bound to be truly mind-blowing. You heard me, Monkey King in all his furry detail is coming to a fake DVD cart near you soon.
Inception China release date moved up, movie will be shown uncut
Someone has heard our prayers! Not only has the China release of Christopher Nolan's Inception been pushed up from September 21 to NEXT WEEK (Sept. 2), but it'll be shown completely uncut lest nobody understand the already "confusing" plot. So come next Thursday, who's free for a Shanghaiist movie date?
Christopher Nolan's Inception coming to China screens
Awesome film news! Inception, one of the most highly anticipated (and then most highly rated) movies of the year, will be getting one of the coveted 20 spots reserved for foreign films here in China. That means it'll be coming to a theater near you!
Avatar IMAX sold out for January, will continue into Feb
Welp, it's official: Peace Cinema has now sold out of Avatar IMAX tickets for the whole of January. So in case you were thinking about lining up, don't. However, your chances of watching the movie aren't quite over yet. Peace will be extending the movie's run into February and promises it will "later communicate policies for February ticket sales." And there's no longer a two-day advance restriction for buying these suckers, so maybe you should think about lining up after all. Hm. (Thanks Anthony!)
Today in History: 1976 Tangshan earthquake
Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the Great Tangshan Earthquake, believed to be the largest earthquake disaster of the 20th century thanks to its immense death toll. The earthquake hit very early in the morning, at 3:42am, which contributed to its extreme deadliness. Chinese official sources stated that it measured a 7.8 on the Richter scale. It was then followed by a 7.8 magnitude aftershock about 16 hours later.
