Shanghaiist was lucky enough to hang out with Jose Gonzalez for his first night performing in Shanghai. After a delicious meat-free meal at Jujube Tree (aka Vegetarian Lifestyle) — Jose is a vegetarian — we went off to be thrilled by his performance at the Children's Art Theater on Huashan Lu. Jose played the greatest hits from his last two albums, including "How Low" from In Our Nature and his cover of The Knife's "Heartbeats."

So last week we thought summer in the city had come early - temperatures were pushing mid-20s and the sun was shining. This week temperatures have rocketed back down to single figures. Ridiculous. Luckily, you can warm yourself with some quality live music this week - starting tonight.

In checking out the Facebook page for Split Works, the promoters bringing Jens Lekman to China, we noticed the other acts Split has lined up. Here they are (with Shanghai dates/venues in parentheses): Roxy Cottontail (Dec. 4?/TBD), South Rakkas Crew (Jan. 8/Shelter), Future of the Left (Jan. 16/Dream Factory), Jose Gonzalez (Feb./TBD).

Austinist was in an entertainment state of mind as they covered the dickens out of the Austin Film Festival, depicted all the Big 12 football coaches as South Park characters, and interviewed Jose Gonzalez.
