When we read that a certain hospital would be punished for putting up erotic literature on its website our curiosity was piqued: Were there other fans of Debbie Does Dalian out there? It turns out that the literature in question is erotic literature from the Qing dynasty, a novel by the name of Secret Lust of Spring Palace, which, this Chinese report tells us, is the racy 《春宫秘史》 (Chun Gong Mi Shi). There's no "lust" in the title, but we suppose that's whatever the opposite of being "lost in translation" is. The point of putting this up was to give couples having difficulties conceiving a little encouragement. Shanghaiist really didn't understand claustrophobia until we found ourselves in places like People's Square on a mild winter Saturday or Xujiahui subway station during rush hour. We think that's why we like effecting a little escape now and again to the Moganshan Lu area, where all the artists, galleries, and warehouses remain empty even on the weekends. We went there on Saturday and found some nice exhibits, among them the Dragonair Emerging Artists show. The contest is only open to artists born during or after 1970, has as its official theme "The Beauty of Art" (Interestingly, the Chinese theme is "美。艺。旅途".
