Who is Yacht ?

Another week, another round of rumors floating around. Looks like the Busdriver show is going to happen and is scheduled for October 13th at 4Live. What makes it even more exciting is the fact that Yacht, Portland DJ extraordinaire, might be opening for him. Yacht is currently on tour with Architecture in Helsinki and in the past has toured with LCD Soundsystem. Seeing both him and Busdriver on the same stage makes us wet our pants a little each time we think about it.

After dozens of tryouts, we have finally selected the DJ for the Shanghaiist Happy Hour, coming up Friday, March 3 at Blue Frog on Tongren Lu. And the winner is ... "The Weasel" ... aka Shanghaiist's own Jeff Jorve (really, his iPod will be spinning all the tracks). Expect an eclectic mix -- and likely several songs with references to ultimate frisbee. Greetings, music fans. Below you will find, in Shanghaiist's humble opinion, all the music you should have been listening to in the first half of 2005. And if you haven't been able to check these albums out yet, you still have plenty of time to load them on to your mp3 player of choice before 2006. Five Shanghaiist contributors submitted five albums each for a total and 25 -- and they wrote exactly 25 words about each one (exactly, only if you are very lenient with your rules of hyphenation). And yes, we are aware that these "Best of the Year (so far)" lists should really happen at the end of June and not at the end of July. But we're a start-up blog in China -- you expect us to be organized?
