Photos: Plants vs Zombies flash mob in Liaoning mall
Bored housewives, teenagers, and grandparents in Liaoning got a special treat yesterday by being witness to the world's first ever Plants vs Zombies flash mob! The game, which is hugely popular here in China, has already had live action reenactment and tributes on comedy TV shows, so seeing choreographed and costumed groups of mobile video game characters in a shopping mall doesn't seem quite so strange.
Shanghaiist's favourite song banned by the China Basketball Association
Here's a bit of odd news for the day. Gong Linna's smash hit 《忐忑》or Perturbed (listen here and here), has been banned by the China Basketball Association during games. The song was declared to be "cacophonic music" and playing it on court would be a "severe violation of the association's rules" after the Liaoning team filed a complaint saying the song interfered with their free throws. Other clubs playing the song at home have reported winning their games.
Chinese mayor sacked for ignoring kneeling villagers
How times have changed! 21 years ago, when a couple of students decided to kneel on the steps of the Great Hall of the People with a petition to the government, nobody would give them the time of day. China unearths bird-like dinosaur with four wings
Dinosaurs are cool. We always get excited when a new discovery is made, especially when fossils help elucidate the evolutionary process. And we get even more excited when scientists make an exceptionally intriguing discovery, like a dinosaur with four wings(!) Found in Liaoning province, the Anchiornis huxleyi provides an interesting link in the evolutionary chain between birds and dinosaurs. And it's from China, too!

Via Speak4China which is rapidly becoming one of our favourite blogs: Shortly after Chinese netizens launched a "human flesh search engine" and elicited a tearful response from a group of three Sichuan students for their earthquake interview prank, the online lynch mobs have quickly found a new target in a Liaoning girl by the name of Gao Qianhui (高千惠). But this time we think that she kinda deserved it. First let's check out her crime, which is this 5 minute video you see on the right. Gao was basically annoyed with the 3 day period of national mourning during which she could not watch her favourite television programme nor play any games online and decided to record the video, in which she said some pretty nasty things about the victims of the Sichuan quake. Here are several rough translations of a few snippets:
"I turn on the TV and what do I see? Dead bodies, injured people, corpses, rotten bodies, all the crazy acts you guys are putting up. It's not that I want to watch these things. I have no choice. Look, now the entire internet is black-and-white and without colour. Do you think we're all colourblind like you? Have your eyes been hit by so much rubble you can't see any colour now?more ›
