According to the Sherpa's blog, Taco Loco "has been sold and will be permanently closed and therefore no longer available for Sherpa’s deliveries." We'll miss you, Taco Loco, your 28RMB burritos, your ice cold 15RMB Coronas and all those other awesome taco + beer deals. I haven't been this upset at something closing for a long, long time - not only does that make our only source of cheap Mexican food El Mexicano (which is, btw, more expensive), it also means there's no longer anything non-Chinese and still easy on the wallet around the Fumin/Julu/Donghu area.

Mi Tierra serves up solution for tacos-lovers in Shanghai
The grumblings of “where can I get a decent taco in this town?” have long been echoing throughout the Shanghai expat crowd since basically the dawn of the Shanghai expat crowd. To ease this age-old gripe, there have been plenty of “solutions” cropping up over the years: hearty Cantina Agave, classy Maya and the down-and-dirty Togo, to name a few. Well, here’s another remedy to add to the mix: Mi Tierra - where authentic ingredients are given an upscale twist. But by upscale, don’t you dare go thinking Mexican “fusion,” because, as the name suggests, this restaurant is all about recreating the Mexican food of “my land
my family
my tradition.”
Cinco de Mayo Madness: A guide
Happy Cinco de Mayo Shanghai! In a city that doesn't really have a lot of Mexicans, we sure have plenty of ways of celebrating their commemoration day of a battle they won against France! And even the swine flu isn't dampening our spirits (nor should it, now that Mexico says it's feeling better and we've stopped trapping its citizens in quarantine here just because they happen to hold Mexican passports). Places you could hit up tonight include:
Cantina Agave: Hallelujah
The wait is over. We've finally found a Mexican restaurant that has satisfied our too-long simmering desires for big hearty burritos, soft fish tacos, chunky guacamole, and a selection of salsa both sharp and subtle. The new Cantina Agave, located on the Fumin side of the new Mansion complex on Changle Lu, has brought the California-style Mexican fare we fell in love with back home to Shanghai, wrapped up in reasonable prices and a much appreciated focus on authenticity.
Maya: A new hope for Shanghai's Mexican food lovers
Things are looking slightly up for long-suffering diners clamoring for decent Mexican food. Colossal (and the not so colossal) burritos burst onto the scene last year and found salivating customers willing to throw money and lower standards. Recently, ambitions to elevate the cuisine and fill that still simmering void in Shanghai have manifested themselves in the form of Maya, Brad Turley's reintroduction of Zoco's former space and new introduction of a classier, upmarket Mexican restaurant.
Togo on Taikang brings us joy

This Shanghaiist has been living in our fair town for over four years, most of it spent searching for two things: the love of a beautiful woman and a great, authentic burrito. While we're still striking out on the woman front, we're inching ever closer on that elusive burrito, first with the action-packed weekend special from NYC Deli, and now with the cheesy wonder found at Taikang Lu's Togo taco stand.
