Bars: DADA opening for real now

A new Changning district bar will be rounding out a trifecta of cool places to go on Xinfu lu (the other two being, of course, established indie outposts LOgO and Anar): it's called DADA and it's the pet project of Antidote dude Michael Ohlsson.

RIP: 4Live (November 2006-January 2008)

This coming Saturday, Antidote will be hosting Knifehandchop from Toronto and Sulumi from Beijing. Antidote organiser Michael Ohlsson aka DJ Ozone explains why he invited the two DJ's:These guys are producers, not just DJs. I've always been interested in music that is current, innovative, cutting-edge ... but also accessible. Not just experimental noise. And I love to share this new music with people. Last Friday night, Shanghaiist dusted off its finest flannelette shirt in anticipation for the 4Live performance of Brooklyn band Locksley.

They are also the "best live act I saw at Midi," according to Shanghai blogger and DJ Michael Ohlsson. Now, it should also be mentioned that Micheal does marketing for 4live, where British dance/soul/electronic/funk/disco band Kava Kava is playing at 9 pm tomorrow night. But Michael likes good beer, so we trust his word. And if you need another opinion, some guy on YouTube says "Kava Kava are the shit." Entrance is 50 kuai. Check out some Kava Kava tracks at MySpace.

Michael Ohlsson is an American living in Shanghai. He's a DJ named Ozone. He writes about Shanghai's music scene for City Weekend. And, like many people we know, he eats meals ever day. On his Weird Meat blog (where he writes about eating, um, weird things) he recently posted a list of restaurants he likes in Shanghai. It's not meant to be a definitive list, but he does say he has worked as a food critic and knows "good food." Anyway, lists like this are always good conversation starters, and who knows — you may discover a great place you didn't know about before.

Michael Ohlsson is a DJ in Shanghai -- we recently interviewed him -- and he is also a blogger. His site called Weird Meat is about his experiences eating ... well ... weird meats. His latest culinary challenge (other than eating Shanghainese food -- which he hates)? Drunken shrimp:
