Well, would you look at that - The Miele Guide, which is like Zagats but with an all over Asia focus, has listed five of the best restaurants in China and three of them are in Shanghai! Who made the cut? Jean-Georges came in at fourth place, beat out just barely by fellow Bund institution M on the Bund at third. Though Beijing's Da Dong Roast Duck took second, it was ultimately David Laris' Laris that grabbed the top spot. Laris is also located on the Bund. While those three are fine restaurants indeed, did the Miele people never go anywhere outside of the Huangpu district?

The live music selection may be amazing this weekend, but it's not the only thing going on! Today also marks the beginning of two super special events and if you're a fan of sexy things or literary things (or sexy literary things), you've got great reason to be psyched.

Last September we told you about Zagat collecting survey responses for their 2008 Shanghai hotel and restaurant guide. Well, the guide has just been published, and founders Tim and Nina Zagat were in town this week for its launch. We were on hand to get a first look a the guide and to ask some questions. Here's a little summary of what we learned:

As you’ve no doubt read about already here on Shanghaiist, this weekend could be one of the best for live music since we scuttled into the Year of the Rat. Therefore, you’ll forgive us if we don’t make it down to M on the Bund but instead spend our time over the next couple of days at slightly less refined venues checking out some great bands. Nevertheless, if books not beats are your thing, then M is the place to be as we enter round 3 of SILF (not to be confused with these SILFs incidentally).

This evening will see the second week of the Shanghai International Literary Festival kicking off down at M on the Bund. Events will continue across the weekend and throughout the week, providing plenty of opportunities to see a whole host of great writers and performers.
