Yuyintang: 0093 rock party four

             + 1 more

With so many shows on last night and the rain coming down you might think that a multi-band party at Yuyintang would lose out. That is if you reckoned without the Crazy Mushroom Brigade. Yuyintang made moves to improve the latest edition of the 0093 Rock Party by bringing in a couple of larger acts: Crazy Mushroom Brigade and Mortal Fools. It was the Mushrooms who brought their 'A' game and tore the place up. more ›

Subs set the standard at Windows Tembo

Subs set the standard at Windows Tembo

Beijing based punk rockers The Subs officially opened Windows Tembo's new stage last night. The venue was packed and the show, well ... it's already got us reaching for the superlatives. Luckily, supporting act Mortal Fools drummer Tim Anderson was on hand to sum up the night with a calmer observation: "Every time the Subs play Shanghai they raise the bar for the whole scene and everyone gets lifted up." more ›

Photos from GigLive

Anyhow, after the taping was done the regular GigLive music show began. It was night of local punk rock, featuring Happy Sky, Mortal Fools, and Loudspeaker. We've heard that Happy Sky were formed recently, and it showed -- we know that punk is loud and brash, but you still need musicianship. After awhile, they all seemed to be playing to the beat of a different drum. more ›

Notes from the Underground: Weekend preview

Notes from the Underground: Weekend preview

Growing up, we dreamed of the day we could stroll bleary-eyed into the office after going back to the swanky hotel with an international pop starlet in one arm and a tequila bottle in the other -- except that last night, it was more of a service apartment and our starlet was actually Fan Yi Chen, with some Lawson's best baijiu … lovely guy, nonetheless, and apparently he's "kind of a big deal". more ›
