Interview: UK Dubstep / Techno innovator Neil Landstrumm

Cutting edge music comes to Shanghai this Saturday night when the "King of UK bass music", Neil Landstrumm, performs live with local undergound techno crew, VOID. Shanghaiist caught up with the Edinburgh native on the eve of his second visit to the city, to hear his thoughts on the current electronic music scene, the differences between Shanghai and New York, noodles, faceless techno bollocks, adrenalin-pumping live electronics, and jelly botties. more ›

Electrolist: Detroit's Underground Resistance are back

Underground Resistance make a welcome return to Shanghai tomorrow night as guests of the VOID crew at Shelter. For around two decades now their reputation as a militantly anti-mainstream Detroit techno collective has proceeded them from club to club as they drop their spellbinding music. more ›

Traxx @ The Shelter, Saturday 9/20

It's getting later in the month, which means it must be time for another Void techno extravaganza at The Shelter. Continuing the "Techno Pioneer" theme from Robert Hood's slamming set in June, this month the boys are flying in Traxx for a nonstop four-hour set of house & techno insanity. more ›

Thursday: Old Skool House Music @ The Shelter

Thursday: Old Skool House Music @ The Shelter

Ah, 80's music. No, we don't mean that 80's music. We mean Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy inventing new art forms at dueling nightclubs in Chicago. From their respective perches at The Warehouse and The Music Box, these pioneers of music transformed soul, disco, R&B, and funk into what's now known as house music. more ›

Photos: Robert Hood at The Shelter

Yet somehow, everybody was cheering for more when Hood left the decks around 4 AM. It was definitely the most aggressive set we have ever heard at The Shelter — and we want more, dammit! more ›

Inventor of Minimal Techno comes to Shanghai on Saturday

Man, how time flies. When Shanghaiist interviewed Void co-founder (and occasional Shanghaiist contributor) Shanghai_Ultra in February, the first thing he talked (or rather, gushed) about was that he'd just confirmed a certain Robert Hood to play Shanghai in June. In fact, you'll see him mention it in the answer to the second-to-last question. more ›
