These are just several of a beautiful series of photographs by up-and-comer Fan Shishan, featured on NeochaEDGE. The series, called “2 of Us” “characterizes the effects of China’s one-child policy on the identity formation of young Chinese people,” focusing mainly on their creation of “alter-egos” to substitute for the siblings they never had. It is well worth a look - the rest of the pictures and an interview with Fan are on NeochaEDGE.
"2 of Us": A photo series about the one-child policy
Watch: "The Big Girl," a stop motion animation adventure
We always love it when someone highlights the amazing stuff students and amateurs are doing here in China. While the domestic industry for cartoons hasn't seem to have completely removed itself from copycatting Japan (usually, badly) or its own low production values, animations like this remind us that there IS real talent hiding beneath the surface.

Photos: A Nice Set @ SOURCE
Over the weekend, A Nice Set - the traveling exhibition of leading artist-designed slipmats (that thing you place over your vinyl records) - debuted at SOURCE. Presented by NeochaEdge and Jellymon, the Shanghai edition not only featured mats by international artists, it also was the first showing of original slipmat designs from Chinese counterparts.

- Shanghai is going to be the next stop for A Nice Set, a traveling exhibition of customized slipmats designed by leading artsts from around the world. The exhibition will open at 7:30pm on September 12 at SOURCE. [Neocha Edge]
- The Wall Street Journal has a great piece on Zhaohang village, which contains land that would've been razed to build Shanghai Disneyland. As is the way in China, many villagers didn't get the compensation they were hoping for. [WSJ]
- Bad news for all those trying to make a quick buck on their foreign faces, apparently Shanghai is cracking down on foreign people modeling firms. [Shanghai Daily]
