Nokia launches free music service in China

Joining Google Music China in the trend of attracting users with free content, Nokia has launched a free music service in the PRC. Users who purchase one of the eight handsets included in the 'Comes with Music' programme will get a free 12-month subscription to Nokia's music service, which provides free downloads of MP3 files from major and independent labels, Reuters said. The downloads will be available without digital-rights management technology, meaning the files can be used and shared without restrictions. The telecoms giant is hoping the service will boost sales of its phones in China at a time of increasing competition in the smartphone market era. With over 700 million subscribers, China is the world's biggest mobile market by users, and companies are now looking beyond the rampant piracy plaguing the country to see the potential for significant revenues. more ›
