Tonight: An even wilder pub crawl for the Drunken Dragons first birthday

The motley pub crawl crew known as the Drunken Dragons are turning one year old today. Aside from all the regular stuff they do every Thursday (open bar and snacks for the first hour, shots at every bar, roaring around in their party bus with chaotic partiers), tonight's birthday revelry will include a cake, props, prizes and three new venues. Don't forget to wish them a Happy Birthday at the door either--you'll get a free t-shirt to go with your hangover. more ›

Royal wedding fever: Celebrating Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day in Shanghai

Royal wedding fever: Celebrating Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day in Shanghai

In T minus 3 days, the wedding of the decade (century even?) will take place when Prince William and Kate Middleton get hitched. When Lady Diana and Prince Charles wed in 1981, 750 million people watched the event on TV. This wedding, however, will be in even more monstrous proportions! According to The Wall Street Journal, "an estimated two billion TV viewers will see all or part of the coverage of Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton exchanging vows at Westminster Abbey. Add an expected 400 million for online streaming and radio and the number swells to nearly 35% of the world's population." In case you didn't know, two billion is double the number of people who watched the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony in 2008 and it easily dwarfs the 24.3 million people who tuned in for the Spain vs. Netherlands World Cup final last year. more ›

Pencil This In: Did we not get the memo that this weekend was CHARITY WEEKEND?

Pencil This In: Did we not get the memo that this weekend was CHARITY WEEKEND?

It's crazy right? Not to say that Shanghai isn't in a charitable mood most of the time, but this is the first instance we've seen of an entire three day stretch dedicated to not one... not two... but four FIVE different charitable events. It's as if the charity heavens opened up and decided this weekend was the day to rain torrents of giving. more ›

Where to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Shanghai

Just because we’re on the other side of the world from Ireland doesn’t mean that there won’t be plenty going on for St Paddy’s Day over here in Shanghai. This year, March 17th — the date when all of us are a little bit Irish — inconveniently falls on a Monday but fear not, the Emerald Isle’s Shanghai contingent are celebrating early with a bunch of events this weekend. more ›
