Two reporters, Weng Bao (翁宝) and Wang You (王佑) of a leading Chinese financial newspaper 《第一财经日报》have had their financial assets frozen in connection with a defamation lawsuit filed by Foxconn (富士康), the company that runs the controversial iPod factories in China. It started with this:

On June 15, China Business News published a story by Wang You "Foxconn workers: The machine punishes you to stand 12 hours," describing the alleged harsh working conditions and low pay in the Taiwan-funded company.

On July 4, Foxconn filed suit in Shenzen, demanding a whopping 30 million RMB in compensation from the two journalists (and we feel especially bad for the guy who has to cough up 20 million!)

In the past few months, Shanghai has been visited by quite a few notable foreign musicians: a group of wily geriatric rockers, one-third of a has-been disco brotherhood and a spiritual singer with a love for Chinese orphans. There's also been a consistent lineup of bands playing Shanghai's underground rock scene. But what of all those poor souls in the city that yearn for some live Chinese pop music? Their prayers will be answered this summer, when a steady stream of Mando-pop talent make their way through town.

Shanghaiist’s first memory of public sexual harassment in this city dates back to high school, when buses were extremely crowded and rules about what boys shouldn't say and what they shouldn't touch had not yet been implemented. Actually ... wait a minute ... has anything changed since sexual harassment laws were put into place last year? (Yep, last year.) Ms. Sun, in this Beijing Times report, obviously doesn’t think so after she was molested by a 40-something-year-old man on the bus. She called police, who later took both of them to the police station. Sun said she sought the help of one male passenger who was sitting next to her, but he said he couldn't be a witness because he didn’t notice the encounter -- he was watching TV. Sun was told to leave the station and the middle-aged molester was asked to stay. The story doesn't say what happened after that.
