The weekend has arrived and with Chinese New Year looming things have gotten much quieter on the live music front. Friday night Club 8 and Pelle Carlberg, both from Sweden, will bring their pop sound to the crowds at the Shanghai Concert Hall. It had been scheduled for the Dream Factory but due to lack of a proper live music license has been moved. Shanghaiist's interest in this show has been piqued by the oddly......

Want your 6min 40sec of fame? Have some interesting ideas that you've been dying to share with the world? Then put together 20 powerpoint slides of 20 seconds each (no boring lectures or grandmother's tales please), and get in touch with the organisers of Pecha Kucha Night volume 8 at info@far-china.net. Time to take advantage of the start of the new academic year to learn something new at several upcoming events taking place here in Shanghai. Kicking off the fall season on August 30 is Pecha Kucha, a night of creative talks guaranteed to pack a punch by sticking to a limit of "20 slides for 20 seconds each". This month's session takes place at the Shanghai Sculpture Space, with a pre-show by Spanish artist Angel......

We went to the last Pecha Kucha night in Shanghai. We had a good time. We recommend you attend the next one being held this upcoming Saturday. We would elaborate more but we are sleep deprived and cranky. So, without further ado, the old straight-from-the-source trick: Pecha Kucha is known worldwide as an open night for architects, designers, photographers or anyone who wants to share their ideas and dreams. This time we will go back......

The sign on the gate that leads to Tang Hui on Huating Lu reads "停止营业" (ting zhi ying ye or "No longer open for business"). Yep, it's true — the new Tang Hui failed to last a year. The bar and supposed music venue closed last week, Tang Hui general manager Morry Morgan confirmed via SMS: Yes, unfortunately Tang Hui is closed. The music revolution is going to have to wait a bit longer. .........

Shanghaiist has been pestering the good folks at FAR since December, and last night, we finally got our wish. Over 300 people packed (and we mean packed!) into the Source Gallery for the fifth installment of Pecha Kucha Shanghai (the last one was four months ago) . The Tokyo-imported concept is this: each presenter at a Pecha Kucha night narrates a slideshow of 20 images — each for 20 seconds — on any topic of......

The time each of the 12 artists had to present their ideas in yesterday's Pecha Kucha Night. Invented by Tokyo-based outfit Klein Dytham Architects, Pecha Kucha Nights have been held in 12 countries and counting, from Australia to Switzerland. Here's a link to the recent TIME magazine article. And the link to more pictures of the event. Photos from theshanghaieye. Shanghaiist features a "Photo of the Day", daily pictures of life around the city. We......

Where to take a visitor from overseas if you'd like to show him a progressive Shanghai bar that usually has some decent live music? We were dealt this apparently daunting task this weekend. Dinner ended too late for us to make the trek out to Yuyintang for this show, so we headed to Tang Hui. What a colossal mistake. We weren't expecting much -- just maybe to hear these guys play their dueling guitars, spy......
