Chinese blogger Hairong Tiantian (海容天天) is at it again. In her latest installation art performance at Beijing's 798 art district (otherwise known as Dashanzi), she shed her clothes and holed herself up in a metal cage for ten days. During part of the performance, she would be pushed around in the cage by a male assistant. Hairong Tiantian says this was a show on women's rights and an expression for women to walk free from their dependence on men. Describing the performance as the most successful she's ever done, she shrugs off all the criticism by netizens, saying she is not out to do this for fame.

Elton John and Tim Rice's stylistically eclectic rock musical AIDA opened in Shanghai to a full house at the Majestic Theater last Saturday, starring Marja Harmon as Aida, Casey Elliott as Radames, and Leah Allers as Amneris — all three of whom were part of the North American tour of the show in 2006 and 2007. The show runs till Oct 12 in Shanghai, after which it moves on to Suzhou, Nanjing, Changsha, Wuhan, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Beijing, Chengdu and Tianjin.

If you missed the first production, you can judge the talent and performance level for yourself with the YouTube clip we've conveniently embedded. Or better yet, you can just come to the next show, which takes place this Saturday night.
One of William Shakespeare's most famous plays comes to Shanghai tonight as TNT's production of Hamlet begins its run over at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre on Anfu Lu. Arguably among the most intriguing and complex of the tragedies penned by the Bard, Hamlet explores the themes of revenge, madness (both apparent and real), and, ultimately, death — all in the "rotten" state of Denmark. Featuring some of Shakespeare's most famous and revered moments (the 'to be or not to be' speech and the 'play within a play' scene, for example), the tale of Prince Hamlet's attempts to avenge his father's murder contains great drama throughout.
Here are two videos of Maroon 5's concert in Shanghai for all you fans out there that missed their show last Saturday. The videos are somewhat blurry but the sound is as good as it gets and gives you a good idea of the atmosphere. So that's it folks. A busy month of high-profile acts in our little town, like we told you earlier this year: one grabbed headlines everywhere, one was forced to disappoint his fans, and this one turned out to be a really kickass show from what we've heard so far. More pictures here and here.
So it turns out that 42nd Street was as popular in Beijing as it was in Shanghai. Our inside sources tell us that while the musical packed the halls in Shanghai and Beijing, ticket sales just about everywhere else sucked. Sexy Beijing's Sufei went down to a screening to ask Chinese audiences what they thought of the show, and interviewed the actors as well. Two glaring observations: 1. Kristen Martin, the lead actress of the...
