Via City Weekend we learn that the documentary film about last year's Converse-sponsored (and Split Works organized) Love Noise rock music tour of China is now viewable at a DVD player near you. Love Noise put Beijing bands PK14 and Queen Sea Big Shark on a converted bus and sent them on a two-week, six-city tour during the height of Olympics craziness last August. The trailer to the Love Noise film is embedded in this post, and after the jump you'll find a slew of related clips, uploaded to YouTube six days ago. The director's first name is Hammer, so it's got to be good.

We are currently in a twist figuring how to go to all three events, decision-making has never been harder! If we can split ourselves, yes we would in a heartbeat.

We told you the other week about the CD shop down at Yu Yin Tang now being open and a quick scan of the shelves (well, shelf) tells us we're going to be in there a lot. The shop's size reflects the size of the independent music scene in China but it's quality not quantity that counts and you can find pretty much all the main releases that have come out from the bands at the forefront of Chinese rock in the past few years — saving you from trawling the internet for them or waiting for those bands to tour. Records from Carsick Cars, Hedgehog, Snapline, Cold Fairyland, and the new one from The Honeys were all there along with Beijing Midi festival and PK14 DVDs amongst others.

Argghh..can you feel it? With the end of the holiday season things in the realm of live music are starting to pick up again. After a much needed break from Shanghai, we are back and ready for some musical action. During the break it seems that venues around the city have started to warm up to the idea of holding more gigs. In April, Windows Tembo, will reopen as a live music venue and is building a solid lineup of shows, while Harleys, that great basement bar in Xujiahui is rumored to be back on the scene with shows by both Queen Sea Big Shark and Canadian dance punk extraordinaire, You Say Party! We Say Die!.

For any of you who have never heard Queen Sea Big Shark (pictured), shame on you. One of the hottest bands on the Beijing circuit they played the main stage at Midi this year (not a great performance, they are much better in small venues) and are set to release their debut album on Modern Sky in June. Billed as a "dance rock" band, they are definitely more rock and less dance. Check them out at 4Live tonight.

With Harley's Bar accused of stealing equipment and Hong Doudou no longer interested in hosting live music, the Shanghai underground rock scene has moved from Xujiahui to Yangpu District. Last night's No Beijing concert marked the official opening of Live Bar, a medium-sized venue in a quiet neighborhood near Fudan University. More than a hundred people, mostly students, showed up -- which was surprising considering the lackluster turnout at previous events.
