Yes, it really has taken us this long to recover from the Antidote Festival in Zhujiajiao last weekend. And just in time to catch the Antidote gang down at C's tonight as well. As much as we love C's, it probably isn't quite as atmospheric as the venue chosen for last weekend's festival - in the garden of one of Zhujiajiao's old houses.

There's some excellent bands in town this weekend (and we'll talk about them later), but there's also a couple of great reasons to head out of the city and catch some top music.

We jumped on the chance to hit the first PAUSE party of 2009 this last weekend, a non-profit art event organized by the dedicated music mavens of Shanghai - Phreaktion, Antidote, Uprooted Sunshine, Eklektik, and their friends. We shook our booties to electronica, dubstep, electro-grunge and Tibetan reggae, and got delightfully drunk off one of the best drink specials you'll find on the Bund. Can anyone think of a better way to spend a Sunday, rainy or no?

Where we're going this Sunday: PAUSE

The Captain's Hostel isn't just a place for enjoying Bund-like views with (relatively) cheap beers or for picking up tourists, oh no. This Sunday they're hosting the always brilliant PAUSE. These free, non-profit collaborative events with the cream of the city's creative talent have been running since 2005 and are always unmissable. This Sunday's is no different.

Triple trouble: more festivals coming your way

So you thought Midi was the only festival game in town? Think again. Three music events - all festivals of a sort - covering three different types of music are heading your way in the next month or so. Yes, we know one of them is related to Expo, but World Music has the right to a festival too and bringing in those kind of artists was never going to escape Haibao's reach this close to 2010. We'll have more details on all of these nearer the time but, for now, here's a preview:
