So it seems that despite an ultimatum from their landlord, Azul is not closing up shop come this Monday. According to manager David Begg, "Azul has been given a stay of execution and will now be open for another six months!"
Foodie News: Azul not closing as soon as previously thought
Azul closing, other residents of 18 Dongping Lu to follow?
Ah the shame - it looks like Dongping Lu's days as a middle-to-high end food street are nearing an end. According to managers at Azul, the Vargas-backed Spanish tapas turned Peruvian restaurant, the lease is up and the landlords, ICBC (who knew?), want to turn the entire building into a "private club and spa for tired bank managers."
Taco Loco on Fumin Lu now closed permanently
According to the Sherpa's blog, Taco Loco "has been sold and will be permanently closed and therefore no longer available for Sherpa’s deliveries." We'll miss you, Taco Loco, your 28RMB burritos, your ice cold 15RMB Coronas and all those other awesome taco + beer deals. I haven't been this upset at something closing for a long, long time - not only does that make our only source of cheap Mexican food El Mexicano (which is, btw, more expensive), it also means there's no longer anything non-Chinese and still easy on the wallet around the Fumin/Julu/Donghu area.
Blue Frog closing up Tongren Lu location
Speaking of Tongren Lu, one of the few classier establishments on that strip is now shutting its doors. Blue Frog, which has occupied its spot there for the last five or six years, has decided not to renew its lease. They didn't give us a specific reason why they're closing up shop, but they will be throwing a goodbye party on Friday. Guess we'll stop by to dry our tears on some of those delicious burgers and reminisce about how they hosted one of our first happy hours ever.
