Shanghaiist is in a panic. Our Enjoy card expires on Saturday and we have a million (OK, not really, but it seems like it) coupons left in our book and they are all useless by tomorrow midnight. After swapping vouchers like baseball cards with other coupon clippers, the plan for today is to maximize our discounts to the fullest extent for 12 hours or more…

Also, we're happy to announce the date and location of the next Shanghaiist party. It's Saturday, October 28 at Shanghai Studio. And yes, it's a Halloween party (our favorite holiday). Costumes mandatory! Should be a great time. If you are not familiar with Shanghai Studio (which we wrote about before), it's a maze-like bar/gallery ... in an old bomb shelter. How cool is that? All the details of the party have yet to be ironed out, but it will definitely have discounted drinks, Halloween music (we need to figure out what that is) and a room totally dedicated to the showing of slasher horror flicks. Mark the date, start getting your costumes ready and stay tuned for more details.
In case you have missed -- and really, how could you -- we have been asking daily Aussie trivia questions in a build up to tonight's Shanghaiist Dinkum Drinks Happy Hour at Senses. The winners of these daily contests get a free drink at the party (if they can find us in the crowd).
Only 26 hours to go before you get to drink cheap Coopers beer while wearing your Drizabones and listening to Regurgitator's "Kong Foo Sing." And no, we have no idea what any of that means.
Today's Shanghaiist Dinkum Drinks Happy Hour reminder comes with another chance for you to have Shanghaiist pay for your first drink at the party Friday night.
We're sure you are all marking the days off on your calendar, but just in case, here's a reminder: Three days and less than two hours to the Shanghaiist Dinkum Drinks Happy Hour!
So here's the deal: Friday, Sept. 22, 7-11 pm; 2 for 1 on selected Aussie wines (normal prices start at 40 RMB) and 2 for 1 on Coopers beer (that's two bottles of one of the better brews found in Shanghai for RMB 30 ... we haven't seen a better deal in a long, long time). They will also be firing up the barbie (burgers and other meats at good prices) out on the patio, where they will be showing some Aussie movies (no, not Young Einstein). We'll be playing Men at Work's "Land Down Under" over and over and over Aussie music all night long -- and if you are lucky, Shamus might break out the ol' didjeridoo.
Well, actually we don't like cats too much since we are allergic, but we love dogs and free drinks. If you do too, you might want to head over to Senses Wine Lounge (515 Jianguo Xi Lu, 龙聚苑酒吧建国西路515号) this week, because they have free drinks for anyone who makes a donation of one kuai (one friggin' kuai) or more to the Shanghai Second Chance Animal Aid organization. That's a deal even the Mouding County police can applaud.
A commenter at another Shanghai forum wondered why we didn't post much on Shanghaiist over the weekend. The easy answer is: Because it was the weekend. But this weekend was busier than most (for us, at least). Before the Happy Hour was the Roller Revival -- lots of fun ... great venue ... great music ... great costumes -- which we managed to escape with all bones in tact. Unfortunately, that is not something all of the party goers can say. There was at least one broken wrist, which shouldn't really come as a surprise since it was an open bar and most of the crowd had wheels on their feet. (Here are some photos.)
Great news out of Jarrett Wrisley's restaurant and bar gossip column this week in SH (especially if you live near Tongren Lu like Shanghaiist does):
