• Shanghai women are less willing to pop babies out all by themselves. More and more of them are undergoing cesareans, to be precise 53.6 percent of all local pregnant women. Now Shanghai's health authority and local hospitals are seeking to reduce this rate.

• Remember all those kids who were supposedly growing breasts after drinking milk?! Well it turns out that it was all an elaborate hoax with the rumours started by a rival milk company.
• Whilst we all may have been lulled in to thinking that all was quiet on the Sino-Japanese front after the Diaoyu Island incident, more nationalistic protests took place that the government plainly ignored.
• Here’s an idea to try to soothe the relationship between Beijing and Tokyo; why don’t we make use of 120 kilos of rice? It seems where diplomacy has failed with Norway following the Nobel prize fall out, 8734 pieces of sushi has done the trick!

We thought that with the end of Expo coming, things would get easier for bars around the city. Not so it seems! Not only is Shanghai Studio having troubles staying open - apparently LOgO is too. SmartShanghai reports that the bar has been given an ultimatum to close down in ten days. Says the owner: "Too many complaints = Can't get the bar license. Sad." Indeed. It was one of my favorite late night venues - playing fooseball at four in the morning anywhere else just won't feel the same. more ›
