As with most things in Shanghai, the Zombie Walk started a little later than we had planned. Still, by around 8:45pm, a good crowd of 30 to 50 people had gathered at the corner of Tianping Lu and Hengshan Lu. After making sure everyone had gotten a little yellow bracelet to signify their zombie walking prowess (and to get them into Not Me for free), Shanghaiist Editor Elaine Chow, dressed as a videogame character, rallied the troops and commenced the walk.

TONIGHT: Shanghai RAMPAGE at Not Me!

Shanghaiist Scrabble has a winner

Hats off to Sandy from Sarnia for rocking the board all night despite your surprisingly limited amount of drinks. Your winning word "FOXIER" managed to garner you 48 points and delivered you to victory. You win a 250RMB Cotton's voucher to be used (hopefully!) at the next Shanghaiist Scrabble happy hour night.

Reminder: Shanghaiist Happy Hour tonight!

Come on out and have a drink with us!

Don't forget: John Hughes movie + Happy Hour TONIGHT!

And if you happen to have any John Hughes films you'd like to see, bring them on over - lest we have to play The Breakfast Club twice (Shanghai DVD stores had a surprising dearth of good 80s flicks this week).

Shanghaiist Happy Hour: Remembering John Hughes

We're not sure what John Hughes meant to the rest of the world, but for American teens, he encapsulated every struggle and every triumph we ever had or wished to have. We wanted to go on Ferris Bueller's Day Off, we wanted our crushes to blow out our Sixteen Candles with us, we were desperate to experience some Weird Science (or, for the 90s kids, be left Home Alone).

So like the weather nuts predicted, Shanghai was rained out on the Eclipse. That didn't stop most of us from venturing out of our homes to try and catch a glimpse of the disappearing sun through the foggy, cloudy skies though. While this Shanghaiist editor, stuck in rainy Xintiandi thanks to an address mix up, didn't get to see much, thankfully the internet is here to the rescue!

Solar eclipse tomorrow, watch it with us!

So even if weather forecasts aren't the most promising for tomorrow's solar eclipse, we'll still be at various Coffee Bean & Tea Leafs around the city chatting about the weather and keeping an eye on the sun. Well, not directly on the sun. Assuming the rains let up enough for us to actually watch the eclipse happen, here's some safety tips courtesy of Parkway Health:

Solar Eclipse arriving on Wednesday

The days are counting down to the Shanghai solar eclipse and we're all excited for our 6 minutes or so of morning darkness. While weather forecasts aren't exactly the most promising, it's still a momentous occasion that last happened three hundred years ago and do you really want to tell people all you did was mutter sadly to yourself in an office?

Reminder: Bastille Day Happy Hour TONIGHT!

In case you're looking for a chill place to hang out tonight and celebrate French National Day, come on over and hang out with us at the Shanghaiist Happy Hour at Cotton's on 294 Xinhua Lu.

Shanghaiist views the eclipse (July 22)!

You didn't think we were just going to let a once-in-hundred-something-years event pass by without doing something about it, did you? Ha! It's like you don't even know us.

Shanghaiist Happy Hour on Tuesday: Bastille Day Special

If you're a Francophile looking for something a little more special (but maybe a little more low key than a six hour ladies' night, though if that's your thing then chacun ses goûts) to do on Bastille Day, come and hang with us at Cotton's on Xinhua Lu.

Spurred on by the light buzz from beer we had chugged for charity, we pounced upon some unsuspecting flag-waving partygoers during the July 4 Shanghaiist + Boxing Cat Brewery Party last weekend.

Last Reminder: Shanghaiist + Boxing Cat Brewery July 4 Party

Music: The soulful sounds of Carlton J. Smith and some American tunes besides.

More on our Shanghaiist + Boxing Cat July 4 Party

As you may have read, Shanghaiist and the Boxing Cat Brewery are teaming up to throw one heckuva American Independence Day party! And as part of that, we're having a raffle and a drinking competition... for charity. A little confused about that last part? Here's our handy explanation on how you can get completely wasted for a good cause.

For those of you joining us tonight for Transformers 2

We're betting it'll be one of the silliest, and thus funnest, dumb action movies since Terminator Salvation, and we look forward to spend hours making jokes at its expense for weeks to come. Before that though, we figure we'd give you a reminder on the details.

Mark it down: Shanghaiist + Boxing Cat's July 4 Charity Party

It's only two weeks before we light the candles, break out the red, white and blue and begin celebrating the birthday of the United States of America (be sure to slur “meri” to “murr” for added authenticity). Since we at Shanghaiist are never ones to let a good party opportunity go to waste, we’ve partnered up with The Boxing Cat Brewery to host a good ol’ Fourth of July bash.

Join us at Shanghaiist's Happy Hour tonight!

The rain, which had been irking us all day, let up at around 7pm - surprising us all with a pleasant, cool night. We tossed back our drinks, hummed along with the best tunes of 2009 and raffled off a series of amazing prizes. Thanks to everyone who came along and lent a hand to Hands on Chengdu.

A big warm thanks to all our sponsors last night!

Thank you for commemorating the Sichuan Earthquake anniversary with us. Without your help, it would have never been as successful an event. For event photos, go here.

Shanghaiist's May 12 Happy Hour at Cotton's: Drinking for a good cause!

So the weather forecast is somewhat on the drearier side, but never fear - come rain or shine, we will be heading to the Xinhua Lu Cotton's to pour one out in commemoration of the anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquake.

Shanghaiist Happy Hour: May 12

Yep, we had so much fun last time around that we've decided to host it twice a month from now until eternity. Which means, come this May 12, you can once again head over to Cotton's Xinhua Lu location to take advantage of (hopefully) good weather and great drink deals. Don't front like you're not excited!

Just like we promised, it was a beautiful night over at Cotton's Xinhua Road location. We drank, we chatted, and we gave away a free night at the Shangri-La (thanks to Ctrip.com) to one lucky winner. Be sure to come on out to our next happy hour on May 12!
