An iTablet in the forseeable future, but China's tab-let-outs first

Aside from the cut-and-paste actor-replacements in James Bond trailers, controversial fake RMB, assorted videos of imposter pandas and the like, the market, its newest target is the highly publicized (yet unconfirmed and completely rumored) Apple tablet.

From the cut-and-paste of actual Bond scenes to the homemade CG to the misspelled "T1HS SUMMER," this is some quality shanzhai. In fact, we can't help but think that there would be a market for inserting yourself into movie trailers - it could be like those funny photo frames you see at amusement parks, only a full mp4 file instead!

With less than a year left to the Expo, Shanghai is getting ready to show off its splendor to the expected hordes of visitors. We're sure that no one staying here can have managed to escape the Haibaos that have been popping up all over town, or the many renovations under hand.

CNSA emblem sets phasers to shanzhai

Just in time for the launch of one of the most anticipated space movies ever, it seems like bloggers have discovered that an agency closer to home had already put on its Spock ears years ago. The China National Space Administration's logo takes both the United Federation of Planets emblem (itself based on the United Nations) and the U.S.S. Enterprise symbol and mashes them into a vaguely spacey amalgamation. Live long and copycat, we guess?

Winnie the Pooh: willy nilly silly ole' shanzhai phone

Awww, how adorable! From another random shanzhai technology company comes this actually well thought out Winnie the Pooh-themed cellphone.

We previously told you about one man's dream to build, and fly a tiny home-made helicopter between live power lines.

Fake Starbucks Coffee vouchers

Hot on the heels of the dubious iTunes vouchers, it seems that less-than-kosher Starbucks vouchers have now hit the streets of Shanghai. This warning was spotted on the wall of the Starbucks in Metro City, XuJiaHui.

Shanzhai we like: Sciphone Dream G2, the cheap Google Android phone

Oh look! While we're still waiting for anything besides a rumor that the HTC Magic (G2) Android phone will come to China, Sciphone's released their version: the Dream G2. It's here and, at only 750~800RMB, even cheaper than we originally thought it would be.

  • China: “Destroy Japanese Anime!” [Sankaku Complex] "A recent comment by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao decrying the lack of Chinese anime has incited a flurry of online support, with Chinese net users vigorously denouncing Japanese anime."
  • Chinese Hunger for Sons Fuels Boys’ Abductions [NYTimes] "These and thousands of other children stolen from the teeming industrial hubs of China’s Pearl River Delta have never been recovered by their parents or by the police. But anecdotal evidence suggests the children do not travel far. Although some are sold to buyers in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam, most of the boys are purchased domestically by families desperate for a male heir, parents of abducted children and some law enforcement officials who have investigated the matter say."
  • Bill Schiller on one man's quest [TheStar.com] "In China, noted designer and blogger Ai Wei Wei is on something of a lonely quest for justice. The Star's Bill Schiller explains, via Skype, from Beijing."

Fake "Disney" english-language school told to pay compensation

A English-language school that used the Disney moniker without permission was forced to pay 60,000 yuan in compensation to eight families. Originally, called Disney Miracle English Garden, it managed to draw a tuition of 100 yuan per hour from unsuspecting parents. As everyone knows, there's only one school here worthy of the big D: Disney English. Rumor is it that their teachers have to teach wearing mouse ears. Source: Shanghai Daily

You know how some internet videos have the potential to become internet memes, if only they didn't have so much extraneous stuff? Kung Foo Bear is one of them. The parts with the director looking for a Shanzhai Superstar are kind of tedious, but the man in the bear suit jumping around and screaming "打打打" (hit hit hit) before enacting famous Street Fighter II moves is golden. Somebody turn those parts into individual gifs NOW.
