In case you know someone who had to cross the Xupu Bridge today and still hasn't reached their destination, this is why: A car on the bridge suddenly caught fire at around 2pm this afternoon. Though the fire was extinguished by 2:35 and certain lanes on the bridge reopened at 2:40, the backlog had built up quite a bit. It seems there's still a bit of a jam right now. There are no reported casualties.
Shanghai Xupu Bridge jammed by spontaneously combusting car
Shuttle bus catches fire, people's attention
Computers that spontaneously combust are old news, but when a whole bus inexplicably catches fire it catches our attention. Nanfang Daily reported that a shuttle bus on its way to Foshan from Panyu burst into flames on the highway, forcing the driver and thirty seven passengers to evacuate the vehicle. But mere fire wasn't enough to stop the inferno bus: once the passengers and driver evacuated, the bus continued on its way towards Foshan for a full kilometer before finally burning out.
Shanghai hot weather causes car to combust
How hot is it in Shanghai? So hot that a car spontaneously combusted last week. At around 3:30pm on July 9, a Volkwagen Passat began smoking and caught on fire at the corner of Changde Lu and Changle Lu, according to Xinmin. By the time the Xinmin reporter got to the car, the fire had already been extinguished. But from the photos of the aftermath, it looks like the fire did a number on the front of the vehicle. The tow company said that the car likely combusted because of circuit failure. As a PSA, perhaps you should keep your car out of the sun.
Another bus spontaneously combusts in Shenzhen
What's going on with China and its exploding buses? Just days after that bus fire in Chengdu killed 24 people, one in Shenzhen burst into flames as well. On the morning of June 13, a public bus on the 320 route began emitting smoke at a traffic light intersection.
