(Deleted) Weibo of the Day: Pan Shiyi on how to commemorate Steve Jobs

Pan Shiyi, real estate tycoon and president of SOHO China, posted the following tweet on Weibo earlier today, "The Board of Apple should decide right now to mass produce a new iPhone and iPad under 1000 yuan, and allow more people to afford Apple. This is the best way to commemorate Jobs." more ›

Watch: Steve Jobs introduces the iPhone 4 in 2010

Steve Jobs' keynote addresses were the main platform that he engaged with the wider world. Standing with his ubiquitously talked-about ubiquitous black turtleneck, Jobs would unveil the next object of immaculate tech perfection to a rapt audience of adoring listeners. Tuesday's keynote for the iPhone 4S was the first post-Jobs product reveal, and it still feels quite surreal to see someone else now telling the world of the next iteration of iProducts. more ›

Watch: The secret to Steve Jobs & Apple's success

Watch: The secret to Steve Jobs & Apple's success

Steve Jobs, British Petroleum, Jacques Cousteau, Obama and ALIENS...this video has it all. Seriously dudes, whoa. We had no idea iPhones were alien tech. Sure, they kind of resemble the Obelisk in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but we'd expect alien phones to at least drop our calls less, no? more ›

Apple Daily's CG tale of evil Steve Jobs slicing off customer's fingers with a lightsaber

             + 4 more

We thought Next Media (parent company of Apple Daily) was running out of newsworthy items to render in CG -- our mistake! After last week's animation of The Internet vs. Justin Bieber, the people who also brought us Tiger Woods being slapped by his wife, Gordon Brown beating his employees and the Late Night fight between Conan and Jay now use their animation wizardry to present Steve Jobs slicing off a customer's fingers with a lightsaber to show the correct way of holding an iPhone 4. more ›

Quote of the Day: Lenovo CEO Liu Chuanzhi on Apple's missed opportunity

Quote of the Day: Lenovo CEO Liu Chuanzhi on Apple's missed opportunity

"We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble." more ›

Extra! Extra! Do China and Apple really have that much in common?

Extra! Extra! Do China and Apple really have that much in common?

  • Whether or not you believe in this commentary about how China is like Apple - and we're pretty sure we don't because, well, your iPod can't force you to have an abortion and Jobs can't menace you for meeting with people it finds "unstable" - it's an interesting read. [A Product Guy]
  • Like for instance, China has now explicitly said it opposes Obama meeting with the Dalai Lama and doing so would "seriously undermind the political foundation of Sino-U.S. relations." [AP]
  • And then responding to the Taiwan arms sale, Beijing has said it will retailiate against the U.S. by suspending military ties and imposing sanctions on American companies involved. [The Globe and Mail]

Apple still talking to China Mobile, but will it matter?

Apple still talking to China Mobile, but will it matter?

Those sounding the death knell for an Apple, China Mobile iPhone partnership maybe a bit premature. On Friday, a China Mobile spokesperson in Hong Kong confirmed(in Chinese) that discussion between the two sides is still ongoing, but didn’t elaborate on any details. China Mobile has bluntly stated that it has no intention of sharing subscription revenue with handset manufacturers, the core of Apple’s business model. And as the overwhelmingly dominant carrier in China, it is... more ›

Fake iPhone now tPhone?

Shanghaiist recently wrote about the fake iPhones made in China that are already available for purchase. We found the video below that shows some of those great fake features in motion. Being Apple users we're pretty sure Steve Jobs (or the "iGod") would flip out at seeing the less-than-stellar interface design. Thankfully for Steve, the software shows it's actually a tPhone and not an iPhone. I guess we somehow missed all the tPhone hype. more ›

iPhone, meet Meizu's M8

iPhone, meet Meizu's M8

No, pictured here isn’t the vaunted Apple iPhone, it’s a Meizu M8 … maybe. Meizu? Not exactly a household brand name next to Apple. But for what it's worth, this Chinese manufacturer does make some pretty decent, portable music/video players, seen here. Some have even managed to find their ways to overseas markets. But, not everyone is thrilled with their product, Meizu has caught some flak for what some had considered to be an outright ripoff of iPod's design, though this Shanghaiist wasn't entirely convinced: Just because it's a portable music/video player? Just because it comes in black and white? That was until yesterday. more ›
