Cinco de Mayo Madness: A guide

Happy Cinco de Mayo Shanghai! In a city that doesn't really have a lot of Mexicans, we sure have plenty of ways of celebrating their commemoration day of a battle they won against France! And even the swine flu isn't dampening our spirits (nor should it, now that Mexico says it's feeling better and we've stopped trapping its citizens in quarantine here just because they happen to hold Mexican passports). Places you could hit up tonight include:

munchies.jpgWe were first introduced to Cincinnati-style chili back in the States when our roommate brought back a few cans of Skyline chili from his hometown. Poured over spaghetti and topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese, the chili's consistency was much thinner than the denser, Texas-style chili that we had come to cherish. Still, the finely ground beef and combo of spices made it a memorable one time experience before we packed up for China. At least, we thought it was a one time thing, since its lack of availability in California was a pretty good indicator that we probably weren't going to come across it in Shanghai.

togo2.jpgtogo1.jpgThis Shanghaiist has been living in our fair town for over four years, most of it spent searching for two things: the love of a beautiful woman and a great, authentic burrito. While we're still striking out on the woman front, we're inching ever closer on that elusive burrito, first with the action-packed weekend special from NYC Deli, and now with the cheesy wonder found at Taikang Lu's Togo taco stand.
