Chinese labor strikes now hit British supermarket Tesco

The current wave of strikes and demonstrations continued this week, as more than 100 workers blocking a Tesco store in the city of Jinhua in Zhejiang province. Shoppers were prevented from entering the shop by the staff, who boldly blocked and barricaded the entrances and exits, while holding up banners with messages, including ''We want to protect our rights...Return our blood and sweat money.'' more ›

Sainsbury's... in Shanghai?!

British import Tesco may soon face another competitor from its homeland as Sainsbury's seeks to expand abroad. Chief Executive Justin King said in The Daily Mail there is apparently a "team" in China getting to know the markets here. Hmm, undercover shoppers? No specifics yet on when or where the UK brand would start their operations, but the company is proceeding slowly after their less than stellar foray into the American market, where the acquisition of Shaw's left them struggling at home. Empty suitcase found at Tesco's Putuo outlet causes bomb scare

It's four days to the opening of the Olympics and it looks like everyone's nerves are getting super-jittery. A mysterious black roller suitcase found at Tesco's outlet on Guangxin Lu in Putuo District caused a minor bomb scare yesterday evening around 8.30pm.
