Photos: Erotic Fiction heats up the Bund

             + 1 more

We were scandalized by stories of love hotels and elevator trysts, tittilated by tales of naked Nubian giants on the Bund and set all aflutter by anecdotes about orgy-tastic dinner parties... it was an amazing showing for H.A.L. Literature and That's Shanghai's first Erotic Fiction contest at Glamour Bar. But in the end, only three could win. Congratulations to... more ›

Vote in <i>That's Shanghai</i>'s Food & Drink awards

Vote in That's Shanghai's Food & Drink awards

Last year, Shanghai's already established chains won the bulk of the awards at That's Shanghai's annual Food & Drink awards. But with the Shanghai market growing ever more accustomed to one-off fine dining projects (here's looking at you Dongping & Yueyang Lu), maybe this year will surprise us! Anyhow, if you live in Shanghai and you'd prefer not to see Paulaner win best beer again, you can vote here. They'll close it off on August 8. more ›

Jarrett Wrisley to open a bar and restaurant in Bangkok

Jarrett Wrisley to open a bar and restaurant in Bangkok

Those of you who have been in Shanghai for a while will remember food writer Jarrett Wrisley, who started out at That's Shanghai and later helmed SH Mag's food column (he also wrote for Shanghaiist -- very briefly). In his latest column over at the Atlantic, Wrisley writes about the existential crisis he experienced late last year when he realised that the "best job in the world" (food writing) wasn't a real job anymore because "[f]ood magazines were floundering", "[e]ditors backpedaling" and “I had more outstanding payments from publications than I had money in my bank account”. And with that, he decided to take the plunge and start a bar and restaurant in Bangkok, where he is now based. The bar will serve Thai food, "mostly the sort you'd eat on the street." From all of us at Shanghaiist, good luck, Jarrett! more ›

Oasis Bros interviewed by That's

So by now, everyone knows the gig is off, presumably because of Oasis' pro-Tibet leanings. But before we learned that the British brothers wouldn't be performing on our shores, the editrixes at managed to get an exclusive interview in with them - separately. If it really was because of the Tibet issue and not just finances, the Chinese government really ought to read the piece and change their minds. more ›
