Well played, Jeffrey Katzenberg, well played. Like every other Hollywood player these days, DreamWorks Animation is trying to get its foot into the China market, and is currently in negotiations to establish a joint venture in Shanghai. They've already picked out Oriental DreamWorks as the name for their JV. Ooh, ahh, how cultural.
DreamWorks Animation is coming to Shanghai!
Toy Story brings long-lost excitement to Hong Kong Disneyland
We all lamented the end of the Toy Story series when the 3rd movie came out, but never fear, because the legend of Toy Story is now alive again in Hong Kong's Disneyland (just opened yesterday)!
(Un)Happy Valley: Riders get stuck midway on rollercoaster
Yesterday, at Happy Valley, it was pretty much every rider's worst nightmare come true when a rollercoaster carrying 25 people suddenly stopped at its highest point, some 60m above ground.
Shanghai Disneyland to kick off construction in November
Wave farewell to the Shanghai World Expo without much sorrow, because our very own Shanghai Disneyland is expected to start construction in November 2010. Overseen by the Shanghai Shendi Shendi Group corporation, the park will be developed alongside many other facilities such as film studios, arts and media areas, a book-publishing hub and other attractions. The Disney madness has only just begun, with Youku, China's largest video hosting site, joining forces with Disney to stream some of the studio's TV shows. So put on your headphones, because a dose of Desperate Housewives isn't the worst way to drown out the construction clang out over Pudong.
Mickey's Gravedigging for Shanghai Disneyland
Disneyland has faced so many bumps in the road in its long and arduous quest to build a theme park in Shanghai, the latest of which have involved obtaining land for the theme park. First, farmers wanted compensation for demolishing their multiple houses, then the park shrunk exponentially in size, and now it looks like they'll have to uproot a couple graves in the process.
Shanghai Disneyland to be more "Minnie" than expected
Those grand plans we've heard for Shanghai Disneyland to be a whopping four times bigger than Hong Kong's seem to have gone the way of Bambi's mother. According to the National Development and Reform Commission, the park will initially take up 287 acres of land, which would make it the smallest Disneyland in the world, measuring up to just over half of the size of the flagship park in LA. We're a tad disappointed at the sudden shrinkage (did Mickey take a cold shower before the meeting?), but the park may expand as business grows. Then again, who's really surprised that the plan for Shanghai Disneyland has changed once again?
China's Love Land found to be premature
Looks like China's first attempt at a sexually explicit theme park came a little before its time. After videos of its statue, a giant pair of leggy legs in a red thong spinning atop the park's name, were released to the internet - Chongqing officials demanded that LOVE LAND be torn down. Love Land had been set to open in October and was envisioned to be a path towards sex education and a way to help adults "enjoy a harmonious sex life." Unfortunately, it seems like much of the population just found it "vulgar" and overly-explicit instead. Source: NYTimes
Love Land statue a little too bootylicious for us
Yes, that is what appears to be the lower half of a shapely female... and yes, it is rotating. According to Netease, this is an unfinished mascot for a theme park located in Chongqing called... "LOVE LAND." Construction has just begun, but wily netizens leaked the video to the internet. Most people found it way too explicit and somewhat vulgar. Go figure!
