It is official...the golden week has finally hit Shanghai, and it is hitting us hard, with a multitude of music festivals. So for those of you who are taking the vacation serious and drinking so much you can't think straight, Shanghaiist is here to do the thinking for you. Feel free to print and paste the sample itinerary listed below to that one pair of underwear you plan on wearing for the entire week.

Have you ever wished out loud for the central bank to come up with RMB500 or RMB1000 notes some day? We have, and were told by people supposedly in the know that that is unlikely to happen anytime soon because RMB500 could be the monthly salary of an entire family in rural China and the demand for counterfeit cash would swell many times overnight.

How big will the Shanghai premiere of Casino Royale be tomorrow night at Shanghai Film Art Center? Well, the stars of the movie will actually be there. And that doesn't happen too often — last month, Edward Norton flew to Beijing for a Painted Veil press conference, but didn't make the trip for the premiere in Shanghai the following day.

A survey found that Shanghai is the most shi shang (时尚, i.e. fashionable, hip) city in China. OK, to be more precise, the study asked the respondents to tell them what they thought the most fashionable city in China was. The respondents were made up of people in first-tier cities with 3,000+ RMB monthly incomes and 1,800+ RMB incomes in second-tier cities. There were some other noteworthy findings in this study. Like, 50.75% of Shanghai people prefer to be single (only slightly higher than the national average), while the number of people preferring a "weekend marriage" was higher than the national average. The report notes that the number of people that preferred the 丁克 (ding ke=transliteration of DINK=acronym for Double Income No Fuckin' Kids) dropped and now hovers near the national average.

Shanghai's recent cafe boom has left Shanghaiist out in the cold — we don't drink coffee, and only a little tea. Our frigid weather beverage of choice is (start laughing now) hot chocolate, and our savior arrived in Shanghai a few weeks ago: Whisk Choco Cafe.

The video above was one of our favorites.

The Santo Chino Ride continues, and Christopher now finds himself at the base of Huangshan in Anhui Province, struggling to wake up early enough to climb the mountain (he's not a morning person). We'd like to make one clarification: In yesterday's report, we failed to mention the full scope of Hands on Shanghai's Rising Stars program. In addition to the mentor program we mentioned, the bulk of the money generated from the Santo Chino Ride will go directly toward paying for the educations of the urban poor -- children who come from families trying to survive on less than RMB 300 (US$36) per month. You can donate to the trip here.

The folks over at Lonely Planet emailed to let us know that our fair city has been named the number one "City on the Rise" for travellers in 2006, according to their new Bluelist book. Bluelist, which is indeed blue, covers 2006 and 2007, so we'll still be on the rise heading into the Olympics. Here's how they describe the Bluelist:

Derby fever sweeps the city Saturday night as the city's two biggest football clubs go head-to-head in the China Super League at Shanghai Stadium.
