So it may not be the fullest week for live music we've seen around Shanghai lately, but less to choose from just means you won't be racking your brains about which great show you're going to have to miss to catch another great show. And there are some really great shows coming up... especially at Yuyintang.
Look at their line up! You get Triple Smash on Friday, then TooKoo on Saturday... and if that wasn't enough, there's Great Lake Swimmers for you on Sunday. There's virtually no reason to leave the place (we'll probably be hiding in the park next door). Those and other aural pleasures below:
Midweek Music Preview: Jan 6 - 10
Philanthropist: Rockin' with Roots & Shoots
In Shanghaiist's Philanthropist feature, we highlight individuals and groups doing interesting things to make the world a little bit of a better place. This week we talk to one of the organizers of the third annual Rock for Roots & Shoots concert.
Live Music This Weekend: Grace Before Meals, Monroe Stahr and RESO 6
Ugh. Summertime in Shanghai and livin' ain't all that easy. It's too darn hot one minute, sun showers the next. Luckily, Yuyintang have just installed a new air-con unit in the main room making it just that little bit less hot 'n' sticky. Live Bar? Well, they've got dirt cheap beers. And Soma Live? They seem to have melted away altogether for now. So here's where to get sweaty this weekend:
Live Music This Weekend: Hard Queen, 0093 Showcase, and Hard Queen
Yeah, we know we put them twice in the headline, but that's how excited we are about the Hard Queen EP release. We don't normally go in for bias - we try to give you an overview of all the live music taking place in the city. But this weekend, there's really only one gig to head to. If you can't get into Hard Queen's music then we have to seriously question your ability to hear.
