Strange article in Shanghai Daily today, "Police help poor village cast off shit name" -- who knew SHDaily were allowed to curse like sailors! Aside from the strange editorial oversight that allowed one of the "Big Three" swearwords into a publication that's read by thousands of expat families (though this story was not in the print edition), is the odd story itself.
Guizhou village rids itself of historic "Dog Shit" name

In the latest episode of "Dude, what?" there's a small village of about 800 people in Deqing County, just outside of Huzhou, that serves as a breeding area for three million snakes, including hundreds of thousands of venomous cobras and vipers. They're used as food (some commenters on the photos say they've tasted snake and describe it as wet and slimy) and their venom is collected and used as medicine.
Peking duck a favorite amongst athletes
Both Xinhua and Channel News Asia have run stories about the Beijing delicacy Peking duck as a favorite amongst athletes staying in the Olympic Village. A spokeswoman for the Olympic Village reported at a press conference that the supply of the duck dish was doubled from 300 birds per day to 600 to satisfy the demand of the 10,000 or so athletes living the village.
