A newly banned ad from the European Commission titled "Growing Together" managed to ruffle a few feathers, due to its arguably racist portrayal of the national identities of China, India and Brazil as fearsome martial arts warriors surrounding a lovely-cheekboned white lady in peril (her imagined capture would result in the colonization of her discount bargain events and universities, presumably) who looks like a shanzhai Uma Thurman from Kill Bill (thanks Bruce!).

Watch: Linsanity gets Autotuned!
DJ Steve Porter's work involves creating songs from the autotuned quotes and audio clips of media personalities, with his stuff mostly focusing on athletes and their coaches (though the Slap Chop Remix was a notable exception). And now, Porter has done the same for Linsanity!
Watch: Chinese cover of 'I Want It That Way'
Hey, remember Dawen, the mild Youtube sensation who performed a Chinese cover of viral internet disease Rebecca Black's "Friday"? He's back with a new translated number, and summons the ghosts of TRL past with a cover of "I Want It That Way", the Backstreet Boys' ode to our millennial middle-school angst.
African Pinko kicks out the Red jams with old Revolutionary soldiers
It looks like Good Little Brother (好第) has 'made it'. The viral internet star, who shot to fame after a clip of his rendition of 'The Words of Chairman Mao are Memorized By Heart' garnered over 1 million hits in two days during late May, was invited recently to open a new military museum in Jiangxi Province's capital of Nanchang.
Watch: Cafeteria dish sorter achieves Zen-like mastery
Congratulations, Chen Wenyuan (陈文原), it looks like your 15 seconds of internet video fame have arrived. Chen, a junior at Fujian Agricultural University now trending as 'Sharp Dish Sorting Brother' (犀利收碗哥), has cracked the top ten on Baidu's internet buzz index, after video of his peerless dish-classification skills was posted online.
Watch: Where the hell is Matt... dancing in Shanghai!
Over the weekend, Matt Harding from the Where the Hell is Matt series of Youtube viral videos came to Shanghai, putting a call out to anyone who'd dance with him in front of the Science and Technology Museum in Pudong. We were there to catch the action.
Video: Shanghai girl drifts Caddy into parking space
Yes, this video, called "Shanghai's Drifter Girl," is quite obviously a viral ad. In fact, it's probably by the same people who made the whiny Shanghainese girl in a Buick showroom video. But hey, this one is shorter and considerably sweeter so I give it an A+. I wish I knew how to parallel park a car, much less park a Cadillac CTS by slamming on the handbrake and squealing it into a perfectly sized space. Apparently I'm not the only one - it's gotten over a million hits on Youku so far.
Video: Have a honkin' happy birthday, China
From Chinasmack comes this pretty cool absolutely-a-viral video which shows truck drivers from Deppon, a Chinese shipping company, coordinating their horn honks to wish Happy Birthday to China. Yes, most DEFINITELY a viral video.
Thursday Timewaster: New drivers are sooooo silly
Youku Buzz points us to this cute new driving tips PSA/Hyundai Elantra viral commercial that's been heating up on Youku. It asks if the ad is funny, sexist or both?
Video: RC car plays Super Mario Bro.s theme
We're a sucker for anything that involves the Super Mario Bro.s theme, so we were quite delighted by this cute little vid of a Chinese guy who uses an RC racecar to plink plonk that ubiquitous song on an expertly arranged array of bottles. But, like most things that delight us on the Chinese internet these days, it seems like this too is a viral video. This time around, for Ford. Sigh. Oh well, at least they're entertaining?
Friday Fun: Hu Ge's Shoe wars
Hu Ge, the Shanghai unknown who shot to fame after parodying Chen Kaige's The Promise with a story about a steamed bun, seems to have settled in pretty well to his new role as parodyist for hire. Besides coming out with his own 30 minute spoofy action work, he's gotten some commercial requests on the side.
Tuesday Timewaster: I want my sharks fin soup!
We strongly suspect that this is nothing more than a way to parody Airport Auntie while getting the point across that sharks fin soup is a morally reprehensible delicacy... but there's something about watching Hong Kong people wig out that just tickles our fancy.
