With everyone focused on shoals and islands, India clearly felt left out of the growing escalation of Chinese border-disputes. In a response to the recent issuance of new passports with maps displaying disputed areas as Chinese territory, India has done the same with its visa stickers.
The new stickers include the disputed Sino-Indian border regions, located in Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin, as Indian Territory. Both areas border the Tibetan Autonomous Region and China and India fought over them as recently as 1962. Tensions have remained high ever since, although a recent trip by Chinese leaders to India in 2010 aimed to ease them. During this visit Premier Wen Jiabao said of the disputed-borders, “It will not be easy to completely resolve this question. It requires patience and will take a fairly long period of time.”
