A Sichuanese woman bit off the penis of her 9-year-old son while in a “state of delirium” on Sunday in Yibin, Sichuan Province, according to local media.
Doctors told the Southern Metropolis Daily that though the boy is not in a critical condition, he will suffer lifelong disability as medical staff were unable to reattach his penis. They also warned of a danger of severe mental trauma due to the attack itself and the terrible aftermath.
The 9-year-old was visiting his mother at a Buddhist temple where she was being treated for a mental disorder. Family members reportedly discovered the woman attacking the boy and gnawing on his genitals after she had been left alone with him. The mother, who suffers from schizophrenia, has also been hospitalised following the incident.
Most cruelly for the victim, as his testicles were left intact, he will likely have a normal sex drive later in life but be unable to act upon it; unlike traditional eunuchs, who were typically asexual if castrated before puberty.
In March, a mentally ill man in Shenzhen Province bit off his 6-year-old son’s penis, though doctors were able to reattach it in that case.
