Kids today eh? A Guangzhou artist has caused controversy over his performance art piece on Saturday. In a much-publicised event the artist, Kang Yi, stood arms outstretched, wearing only a thong, and with three cooked ducks hanging from his body. A female helper then proceeded to get up and give him love-bites over his bare chest. Many reporters were invited to the event and afterwards Kang Yi said: “It’s a critique of the concept of chaotic love…..I hope that my art piece will call out to today’s youth to seek out the excellent genuine love and feelings of traditional China“.
The video of the performance has been much forwarded and commented on by netizens. One outraged commentator said: “Today’s society consider rubbish to be art, consider criminals to be normal, and illegal lawyers to be defenders of the law…. where are the police? why have the news reported on this? It just promotes it! Don’t profane art!” Another less outraged commentator said “It’s a waste of good chicken“.
It’s not the first time that Kang Yi’s performance art has created controversy; recent works on the streets of Guangzhou have attracted attention from the police and bemused onlookers. You can watch highlights of this weekend’s event below and decide for yourself whether it was worth wasting three roast chickens for:
