It shouldn’t come as a surprise that nobody’s launching the biggest parties this weekend right before NYE. But there are still noteworthy events that you don’t wanna miss. Yuksek from France plays at Arkham on Saturday night, and Yuyintang surprises with another night of experimental live electronic music and visuals. On Sunday, there’s a flea market not far from Xintiandi with vintage goods. And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Need inspiration for New Year’s Eve? Check out our NYE Event Special!!
Asian Vibes One Year Anniversary @ DADA
One year is not an eternity, but hey – there are several clubs in Shanghai that didn’t even survive that long, so congratulations! DJ Break opens the night before Nakazawa and Yoshinaga take over to play electro and deep house till late.
Free // 9pm // Dada // No. 115 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu (幸福路115号, 近法华镇路)
S.T.D.: Yuksek @ Arkham
Originally Mr. Yuksek was supposed to play at Ibiza, but that place is going into hibernation until who knows when. So the new Arkham comes in handy. You know where to go if you wanna see the French electro artiste extraordinaire. His mixes suck up electronic clichées and combine groovy beats with anything that fits in from pop, rock, hip hop and more. Support from the S.T.D. DJ crew.
100RMB // 10pm // Arkham // 1 Wulumuqi Road, near Hengshan Road (乌鲁木齐路1号, 近衡山路)
Step Into Bass Winter Edition @ Yuyintang
Torturing Noise, TMISM, DJ Yen and co compose a night of electronic arts, extreme performances, live acts, dance, DJs, live video art and bass music. Sounds like it’s gonna be a noisy, electronic and flashy overkill with lotsa bass.
30RMB // 9pm // Yuyintang // 851 Kaixuan Lu, near Yan’an Xi Lu (凯旋路851号, 近延安西路口)
GO: Detroit @ Virgo
Virgo launches a new party inspired by the great music cities of the world. So what exactly is the sound of Detroit? Motown Records (Soul, R&B) comes to mind, as well as rock & roll, hip hop and Detroit techno. I’d say there’s a likeliness that people who enjoy one of those genres totally dislike the others, but Virgo mixes them up anyway and threatens to play a bit of it all during the course of the night… 30RMB drink specials.
Free // 10pm // Virgo // Laomatou Bldg 11, 505 Zhongshan Nan Lu, near Fuxing Dong Lu (老码头, 中山南路505号11栋, 近复兴东路)
Gush #3 @ LUNE
Ready for some raunchy techno and electro? Empfab and RAZ boast to have the raunchiest of them all. And it doesn’t hurt to check, since it’s free as usual.
Free // 10pm // Lune // 4F, No. 218 Xinle Lu, cross Donghu Lu (新乐路218号, 东湖路路口)
Dreams Flea Market @ Liyuan Lu
This could be your chance to get rid of some unwanted stuff or to equip yourself with something new before the year finally comes to an end. If you heart vintage stuff, make sure you drop by. Second hand clothes and accessories, vinyl, posters, street food takeaway snacks and more wait for you to browse through them. Make sure you wear something red on you to fit in with the New Year’s Eve theme of the market.
Free // 11am – 5pm // Level 2, 655-9 Liyuan Lu, near Jumen Lu(丽园路655-9号, 近局门路)
Just What is it About the End of the World That Makes it So Appealing? @ V Art Center?
The title says it all. We assume most of us wouldn’t really look forward to the end of days, and yet mankind spends a considerable amount of time with depicting destructive forces, perdition and apocalypse in fiction, art and other forms of entertainment. This group exhibition is a satirical take on our obsession. It’s poppy, colorful, flashy and over the top, so have a look if you were disappointed with the lame December 21.
Free // 11am – 6pm // V Art Center // Bldg 3 (2F) and Bldg 6 (Room 104) 50 Moganshan Lu , near Xi Suzhou Lu (莫干山路50号3号楼2楼和6号楼104座)
