Numerous reports have arisen which suggest that a large number of the ‘protesters’ who turned out for last weekend’s pro-government demonstration in Hong Kong were paid to show up.
Bad Canto highlights the following much shared Facebook post:
陳: Jan 1st protest (10am, place, Central). Each person gets 300 HKD. The protest is about two hours long. Get paid on the same day. (The number of people has already changed to unlimited!!! You can call as many people as you want. We only worry you don’t come!) Tomorrow is the last day to report the number of people. (We don’t expect you not to turn up.) If you want to go, please whatsapp 54070155 Ah Long.
The above video, from House News, purports to show pro-Beijing demonstrators having their hands stamped in order to later claim HK$300 for taking part in the protest.
So not only was the pro-CY Leung demonstration dwarfed by the pan-Democrats’ anti-Beijing protest, but those who turned up to voice support for the beleaguered Chief Executive had to be paid to be there.
