Over a hundred children in one Zhengzhou kindergarten were “married” in a ceremony last Friday, dressed in their preschool finest and exchanging rings on a stage in front of parents and teachers.
The director of the kindergarten noted that children aged 3 to 6 are first beginning to experience feelings of affection towards the opposite sex, and stressed the importance of teaching children about responsibility. During the marriage ceremony, the little brides and grooms exchanged promises to stay by their partners if they got sick, and to stick up for them if they were bullied.
This is not the first time the kindergarten has held such a ceremony, according to the director, though last week’s was the largest yet.
