In a recent awards ceremony at The Ritz, London, Tatler magazine bestowed upon Shanghai’s Swatch Art Peace Hotel an award for ‘Daring Design’. The hotel had invited artists from around the world to live and work in one of the 18 studios within the building, exhibitions and installations also took place at the hotel.
The Peace Hotel, built in 1908 as the Palace Hotel, is situated on the Bund, across the road from the famous Sassoon building which now plays host to the Fairmont Peace Hotel, from which the Swatch branch draws its name.
Both wings of the Peace Hotel were restored in advance of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The Swatch Art Peace Hotel also plays host to the award winning restaurant (and grammatical travesty) Shook! Shanghai.
