A Guangdong policeman who allegedly owned 192 houses has been sacked, according to Xinhua, the latest in a series of corruption scandals involving massive property ownership.
Zhao Haibin, a senior police officer and local Communist Party official, was found to have been using fake documents for over two decades, amassing 192 properties in numerous cities across Guangdong province.
A local businessman, who had a dispute with Zhao over a real estate deal, blew the whistle on the police officer.
Zhao told Nanfang Metropolis Daily that he forged an additional household registration (hukou) for the convenience of doing business and just “helped” his brother manage 192 properties.
Zhao’s case is the latest in a series of scandals where officials have been found to have multiple hukous for the purpose of amassing property. Gong Aiai, nicknamed “house sister”, was detained in Shanxi earlier this week on suspicion of owning 41 houses registered to multiple identities.
