Newly inaugurated Chinese president and general secretary of the Communist Party Xi Jinping continues to deftly demonstrate a level of humanity that his predecessor never even hinted at. In a press conference at the recent BRICS summit, Xi revealed that he too misses the late, great Paul the Octopus.
I liked football and volleyball when I was young. I wish to congratulate Brazil on hosting the World Cup again. Unpredictability is what makes a sport match, especially a football match exciting. During the last World Cup, we had Paul the Octopus. I wonder if next year, there will be another octopus who can predict match results.
For the uninitiated, Paul the Octopus was a miraculous cephalopod living in a tank at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany who correctly predicted the results of 11 out of 13 games in the 2010 football world cup. Paul tragically died soon after the end of the competition, but it is foretold that the next football oracle will be chosen by the
high priests of soccer divination Communist Party of China.
