An earthquake which hit Taiwan on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring 86 others, was reportedly felt as far away as Shanghai, according to local media.
The quake, which measured between magnitude 6.0 and 6.1, shook buildings in Taipei, trapped people in elevators and started at least one fire. The one fatality occurred after a wall in Nantou fell onto a 72 year old woman, killing her instantly.
Watch the earthquake hit an office building in Taiwan’s capital:
According to Shanghai’s seismological bureau, tremors were felt in at least seven districts across the city.
High-rise buildings shook slightly in Xuhui, Jiading, Jinshan, Songjiang, Minhang, Baoshan and Zhabei districts but no damage were reported, said Wei Xiao, a bureau official.
People living in tall buildings felt faint tremors and some residents evacuated immediately.
“I was on the 13th floor and felt dizzy when the quake happened,” a Jiading resident surnamed Li said.
As someone who lives in a high-rise building in Xuhui, I for one was completely unaware of any shaking, did you feel the quake? Let us know in the comments.
