One of China’s hottest internet icons in 2011 and China’s sexiest uni student in 2013, “Milk Tea Sister” (Zhang Zetian in real life) is now an intern product manager manager at Microsoft. Next prize? 2014 Hottest intern of the Middle Kingdom…
According to CRIEnglish, she introduced Microsoft’s new chatting robot “Xiao Bing” as part of a promotional event organized by the American company in Beijing yesterday.
Seducing Chinese customers by recruiting their favourite sex symbol… Nice one Microsoft!
Meanwhile across the Taiwan Strait, Milk Tea Sister’s now 20-year-old and very generously endowed Taiwanese cousin “Fried Chicken Sister” also rocketed to online fame around the same time, not dissimilarly making her break by promoting a fried chicken outlet. Since then, however, she’s been keeping himself in the headlines by very different means.
When she made a trip to China last year, an online friend joking said that she wasn’t going abroad but just to the Republic of China’s neidi or inland region, the politically correct but seldom spoken term for mainland China in Hong Kong and Taiwan. To this she pithily responded, “Nantou [in central Taiwan] is my neidi. I’m going abroad, thanks.”
Fried Chicken Sister also joined the students occupying Taiwan’s parliament the Legislative Yuan earlier this year to oppose the ruling KMT’s attempts to secretly force through a shady Trade Service Agreement with China, calling on fellow citizens to “defend Taiwan’s democracy.”
With a place at Tsinghua and now an internship at Microsoft Milk Tea might have both beauty and brains in spades, but it’s clear which of the sisters has the real zhenzhu.
