Two villagers living in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China gave birth to 3 sets of mixed-sex twins in six years, Xinhua reports. Lucky, lucky them.
Fifteen years ago, Gao Changzhong, who used to work as a laborer in Xinjiang, spent 30,000 yuan buying a second-hand house in a village of the Ningxia Hui region’s Xiji county, thus where their journey began.
Before the three sets of twins were born, the couple had already had two sons and two daughters.
Gao and his wife became locally known when they gave birth to the first set of twins, who were also the first mixed-set twins to be born in the village.
Good news knocked again when the couple gave birth to two more sets of twins just four years apart. According to the report, the probability of having three sets of twins is just 1/550,000.
The twins are considered treasures symbolizing good fortune to their family, although caring for the children has brought about some financial hardships.
Now, three of the four older children have got married and have moved out. The fourth oldest child, who suspended his studies because the family couldn’t afford his tuition fees, is working hard as a laborer to help support the family. His efforts have gone towards tuition fees for the three sets of twins, and his money is the main source of the family’s income.
The family lives modestly. All of their children’s clothes and shoes were donated by others, and they say the small LCD TV set in their home is the only thing they own worth any money. Yet, the family’s three sets of twins remain their most valuable “treasures”.
“I’m so lucky to have three sets of twins in six years. When I conceived the first set of twins, I was terrified, as both my husband’s family and my family had never given birth to twins. It totally surprised us having had 3 sets of twins!” Mrs. Gao said.
