In keeping with the Chinese love of both money and Apple products, the most expensive variant of the new Apple Watch sold out yesterday in under an hour.
Yesterday, Apple put the Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition up for pre-order in various territories including mainland China. While a few customers can try on and buy the watches, most won’t be able to pick one up until several weeks later.
Less than an hour into sales in the Chinese market, the Apple Watch Edition, worth 126,000 yuan (about $20,000), had reportedly sold out. Author Ben Thompson went online and checked out every store selling the watch, tweeting his results to the world.

While the Apple Watch has received somewhat lukewarm reviews compared to previous product launches, nothing was going to keep the Chinese from snapping up the latest gold coated Apple device.
If you live in China and you were hoping to get your hands on a watch, fear not! Just head online or down to your local electronics market and pick up a totally convincing, fully functional knockoff. Exclusive to the Chinese market.
