A new restaurant opening in Tianjin is trying out an unusual sales tactic, asking diners to weigh themselves outside, if they are fat enough, they get to dine for free.
On Friday, dozens of diners were seen lining up to try their luck during the restaurant’s trial opening period. Unfortunately, to be qualified to be a “fat diner,” you have to weigh more than 130 kg (286 lbs). These people seem to be a bit overly-optimistic about their weight.
However, this isn’t as safe of a bet as you might think. According to a recent study, China is home to the most obese people in the world, 89.6 million in total — more specifically 16.3% of obese men worldwide are Chinese and 12.4% of women. Continuing a dangerous and growing trend. But, for some additional context, Yao Ming’s playing weight in the NBA is listed at 140 kg (310 lbs). These two weigh a combined 400 kg:
