Recently, a video of a delivery man being slapped and insulted by a furious car owner has gone viral, becoming one of the most hotly debated topics on Weibo.
In the video, a Shunfeng courier’s bike accidentally scraped up against a black Hyundai while making deliveries inside a residential area in Dongcheng district of Beijing. The driver of the black car jumped out of his vehicle and began slapping the courier in face. The delivery man sustained insults, curses and six slaps, yet refused to fight back against the furious man.
According to HiNews, Shunfeng, one of the biggest express delivery service providers in China, said that in the beginning, the black car had blocked the path of its courier. The courier asked the driver to move his car to the side of the road. The driver moved his black car away a bit; however, as the delivery man was going through, the car suddenly backed back up and collided with the bike.
During an interview with CCTV, the courier said that after the beating, the angry driver gave him 400 yuan to keep quiet. But it seems like that wasn’t money well spent.
Video of the incident has quickly gone viral, one thread on Weibo has already reached 8 million users with 54,000 commenting. The vast majority stand behind the delivery man, blasting the angry driver for his uncivilized and over-the-top antics. Fellow couriers have also lent their support online, while commenting about some unreasonable attacks they too have suffered.
The courier was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then the police station to make a statement. The car owner was identified and brought in, he is being detained for 10 days for his actions.
Wang Wei, the CEO of Shunfeng Express, said on his WeChat account that he would not be qualified to be the company’s CEO if he is unable to help his employee out.
