For more in what has been a strange week in China’s education system, we turn to Nanjing, where a kindergarten teacher has been suspended for setting up boxing bouts between her students.
The teacher explained that her students were too hyper, in order to get them to calm down a bit, she decided to make like Tyler Durden and organize a “Kindergarten Fight Club.”
In the ensuing bare-knuckle battles last Friday, five boys were injured, one kid’s spine was even knocked out of alignment, the Yangtse Evening Post reports. Their parents noticed the bruises and scratches, and then the kids broke the first and second rule of “Kindergarten Fight Club,” ratting out their teacher.
When confronted, the teacher surnamed Ge confessed to her role as the instigator. “Since they were all so energetic, I got the idea to let them practice boxing and see who would win,” she said.
The local education bureau released a statement saying that it would not recommend allowing children to fight each other. The kindergarten’s principal also disagreed with Ge’s methods, saying that children are too weak for that kind of thing.
However, we agree with the teacher’s unique approach. After all, how else are these kids going to be able to grow up and take on their middle school teacher?
